SPORTS

Sport has been my life companion since I was born. My dad was a college basketball player, and he always stressed how important exercising is. He said it not only grows our stamina and makes our body healthy but sustains our mental health. He has taken us to one of the largest mountains in Korea since I was two years old, right after dropping out wearing diapers. Naturally, as I grew up, I was part of basketball, baseball, swimming, and speed skating team, and one of our family’s big identities became exercising.

However, my sports life nearly died after going to middle school in Korea. I barely had time to exercise and started to gain weight. As my dad has always said, I got lazy in many things, both physically and psychologically, and lost confidence.

Yet, my state of mind and body entirely changed after making my choice to come to a boarding school in the United States. l joined and trained at least ten hours a week in various sports teams I had never played, such as squash, Cross Country, track and field, and ultimate frisbee. In these teams, I have made invaluable interactions and learned to always push through my limit. I had the opportunity to be a state runner and a recipient of the Gold Medal in our school. Sports, now again, became a big part of my life.
